Description

Fårikål is a traditional Norwegian dish made with lamb and cabbage, known for its rich flavors and tender meat.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1.5 kg fresh lamb, cut into pieces
  • 1 large cabbage, cut into wedges
  • 2 tbsp whole black peppercorns
  • Salt, to taste

Instructions

  1. In a large pot, layer pieces of cabbage at the bottom.
  2. Add a layer of lamb on top of the cabbage.
  3. Sprinkle peppercorns generously over the lamb.
  4. Add another layer of cabbage and lamb, repeating until all ingredients are used.
  5. Pour cold water into the pot until it nearly covers the ingredients.
  6. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and let it simmer for 120-180 minutes.
  7. Check occasionally to ensure it cooks evenly.

Notes

For best results, use fresh, bone-in lamb for richer flavor. Serve with boiled potatoes and a thick sauce from the pot.
